When Father Dies Poem by amanda teresa

When Father Dies

Rating: 3.5

When father dies I will
cry
Not because he's gone but
for all he chances we never took
For all the things we never did and
for all the words we
never said
When father dies i will
smile
Not because he's gone but
for all the chances I'll never have to take
For all the things I'll never have to do and
for all the words I'll never have
to say

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem shortly after I found out that my father is probably going to die soon. His doctor says that he is a 'ticking bomb'.
We have a complicated relationship and I can't say that I love him, but I still care and the thought of him not being here both scares and relieves me. When he dies, I'll be free from him and the psychological abuse that he has put me through, but I'll also never have a chance to make up for all the years of resentment and the time that we have lost.
