When Democracy Came Poem by Tony Adah

When Democracy Came

When democracy came
It came so well that freedom
Did not lag behind.
It came
It came so much so that
We used guns, matchet and bombs
To kill ourselves
And we uttered libels and treasonable talk
Went away freely because freedom
Had been born by democracy
We even stoned our president
Because freedom was too much
And he went home quietly knowing
That the fruits of ddemocracy
Were now ripe for everyone to eat.
