When A Father Cries Poem by Portia Lane

When A Father Cries

He is his daughter's Superman
And his son's Bruce Lee
She thought dad didn't have a kryptonite
And he never imagined dad could be beat

With his super powers
Dad healed all her wounds
Because of dad's fighting skills
Monsters dared not enter his room

When mom wanted to spank
Dad took all the blows
When there was something they couldn't explain
Dad would already know

He was superhuman
In both his child's eyes
He was their god
That is…until they saw him cry

When a father cries
A hero dies
In the eyes of his baby girl

When a father cries
A daughter sighs
And loses a sense of safety in her world

When a father cries
A warrior dies
Leaving a son frightened in bed

When a father cries
A son tries
To erase the image from his head

So fathers when you cry
Try to hide
Or just hold it in

I know it's not fair
But if for us you care
Save the safe world we can only imagine
