A lonely wife on a door step sat
Saw her husband passing by
She asked him if he'd soon be back
And this was his reply

''When women stop ''talkin' ''
And babies stop ''cryin' ''
When mules stop ''balkin' ''
And men stop ''lyin' ''
When bees make bread
And flies make honey
When ''misers'' go ''broke''
And ''hoboes'' save ''money''
When white is black
And the wind is still
Then I'll come back
Like hell I will''


Historical Note:

Bonnie Parker wrote this poem as the ninth of ten poems into her First National Bank Of Burkburnett Texas bank book during her stay in the Kaufman County Jail in April May and June 1932.

This poem is probably by another author and resonated with Bonnie after her husband Roy started to abandon her around 1927.
