What's There To Gain? Poem by Rahul Chakraborty

What's There To Gain?

Rating: 5.0

Tell me what's there to gain?
Nothing much but blood to shed
All the blood goes to vain
Lest the world is set to fade
Just tell me what's there to gain?

Soldiers fight the war cos they're brave
Do they know the beauty is in rain?
Heaven knows, waiting for them is mere grave
Just tell me what is there to gain?

People kill for the sake of religion
Do they know we created these illusions?
Illusion, I say, is an unfathomable power to curb
Lord, bring forth the lamp of love

Driving their cars, you can watch the rich
The irony being kids starving on those streets
Parity for all is beyond our reach
How can it be when the world is full of cheats?

Now who wants to live in this world of cynics?
Isn't it better to trust a double headed phoenix?
I hope we change rather than see the world in vain
Nevertheless, what's there to gain?

The poet has nuanced the hypocrisy of man in our day to day life. Thanks. I quote: People kill for the sake of religion Do they know we created these illusions? Lord, bring forth the lamp of love
