What's It Like Being A Man? Poem by Reginald Goodridge

What's It Like Being A Man?

That question comes up so often
From parents seeking grandchildren
Perspective lovers wanting commitment
Companies seeking long term employees
Governments collecting taxes and fees

But I seem to be on a different track
I thought it was about growing comfortable
Maybe I was wrong, but wasn't it about maturity
Not game playing, being in the world
Becoming resolute as the planet twirls

I'd much rather know myself
Understand my whys and wants
Desires I can't quench
Assuming nothing, learning as much
Just my soul free, hearts to touch
