What's It About. Poem by Christina Simmons

What's It About.

What's It About? It's a haunting - sure is weighing down
like shackles, some kind of anchor stopping
from swaying; rocking backwards and forwards
Punch a hole in the boat it'll sink too the bottom
Only a dark pit below; remains afloat always

Spinning around getting dizzy - losing balance
falling flat on the face what a disgrace; disregard
opposition cause the end is near - waiting for no man's land
Annoying densely sore tired of fighting, weak at the knee

Blown over by any gentle breeze; wind is strong
shatter like broken glass, fragility is a foreign word
It's a calling, deaf! Can't hear a sound - it's louder
and noisier! It goes pop! Run at speed forget past -
don't think of future -

Trying to make sense of what's happened
Put best foot in the midst of chaos, upheaval and confusion
Choking too death suffocation is too much to
handle alone; pain as far back as can remember
Pure ripply perish coming from afar - trouble listening

Pining down the exact point; is it occurring to
my psyche? Disjointed and distorted in a meddle
Realism and roguishly give nonsense; it's thunderous
desensitize to the feelings; on cloud nine really; Describe it?
Tongue and lips are the same blisters very swollen. Sweating

like a trouper; sea come near, don't keep your distance
Constantly fobbing going round in circle; a debt which
has to be paid - can't break free - gain freedom! Prison sentence
must owe; runaway from it - won't allow me too: burden is heavy
dragging it along - need help to carry strenuous load - lending

A loan - take it slowly nice and steady - must weep! Crying
all the time - plea for justice, can't jump across to other side
penance must pay, completed until dues are up! Doesn't make any
sense! Martyr suffers in silence - cause I'm incognito
taste food? Vile sensation; put up with odourless scent

Sweet nor savoury? Absolutely tedious pleasure from eating. When see sparkle diamonds - get knocked off your feet! Thrown
back in despair; desirable just numbness: smiling to melt away
dreadful aches - prolonged agony can't drown this torture, no joy
in living: exist only for the moment - become a hollow tube

Can't feel! Can't see! Don't care! Drifting on a slow boat to china
Rescue me from these unseen chains - inner turmoil destroying
ripped apart in several pieces; save a wretch like me? There's
retribution no understanding? Many times must die

Death has come a dozen millennia? In time - a path in history
So very tired let go! Don't keep on a stalk; set free willingly. Don't punished me anymore! Treated like a bad girl! Want you too. Covered in bumps and grazes, bruised all over; rinsed clean and hang up to dry
