What Is Love Poem by Mohsen Moqim Hanjani

What Is Love

what is love
Love is the unanswered question of mankind
The mankind that from the very beginning
Is waiting in an ambush
That if for a moment his prey passes by
He would hunt it down in the name of love

What is love
What should I say
The starting point
Or a bitter end
Or nothing but an illusion
Or the beginning of suffering
And the end of pain

What is love
A silent conspiracy in the house of heart
Or the scream of the poor
Or the command of the chief
Or a crying child
His eyes on the door
That with some food
When will return just

What is love
A girl wearing a white dress
Or a prince on a horse
Or that treacherous witch
that with an apple
Took a flower from its limb

What is love
staying awake till midnight
Swimming in dreams till dawn
Being indifferent to the path of just
Reciting her name over and every on
or
Running after light
Searching each and each alley
To find the house of the knight
Falling to his feet and begging for the rite
To emerge out of the realm of dreams

What is love
My mind is incapable of understanding such a gift
But if any of you knows
What love is
Then I ask you this
who a lover is
