What Is Freedom Poem by Kumarmani Mahakul

What Is Freedom

Rating: 5.0

Freedom, freedom, freedom,
We need freedom, they need freedom,
You need freedom, everyone needs freedom.
What is freedom?
Why is freedom?
What is its role?
Is it condition of being free?
Or is it personal liberty?
Or is it civic liberty?
Does it mean to liberty of action?
Or does it mean to freedom of speech?
Do people have right to express their views freely?
Were there freedom fighters in past or are there at present?
Have you ever seen a fish alive without water?
Do your guys want to remain in beautiful edifice as per the control of their parents?
Does a parrot want to live in a closed cage?
Speculate deeply and get the answers to all the questions.
Have a smile and then know what freedom is.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Poet's Note about the Poem
Here poet describes about the definition of Freedom. He says that all we need freedom. In medium of questions poet defines freedom. He uses the question words like what, why, who, is it etc. Through the interrogative sentences poet says the meaning of freedom indirectly. In affirmative sentences freedom is being free, it is personal liberty, it is civic liberty, it means to liberty of action, it means to freedom of speech, it means to express our views freely etc. There were freedom fighters in past and there are at present too. We can't see a fish alive without water. So also a person can't survive without freedom. Young mass do not want to stay all time in beautiful buildings by the control of their parents. They want to move freely or want freedom. A parrot doesn't want to remain in the locked cage. It wants to fly in the sky freely. Though it is a bird it too needs freedom. At last poet requests to the people to speculate deeply the question and get answers within them. He also says them to get freedom and give freedom and have smile. This is the theme of the poem in nutshell. This is written in Deogarh, Odisha, India and is dedicated to the people of the world.

Here you have employed the 'Socratic' method of asking questions and eliciting answers! Socrates the great Greek philosopher employed this method to teach his disciples! Enjoyed!

Again, another poem which poses questions challenging the reader to introspection. Freedom is, and should be as natural as the air we breathe. A great poem.

Dear sir, history is witness that freedom above all is - freedom from persecution. And freedom fighters are born when their people are persecuted unnecessarily by unlawful, illegal means. Thank you for the thought provoking poem.
