What Is Education? (In Verse) Poem by Dr John Celes

What Is Education? (In Verse)

Acquiring ken is education’s aim –
Most priceless wealth on earth that lasts life-time;
If not for it, a person’s mind is lame;
Life turns worthless with illiteracy prime!

Sans knowledge, man becomes like almost dead!
One’s character gets moulded by one’s ken;
The illiterate can’t hold up high, the head:
You cannot wield your power over men!

One’s education makes one’s life wholesome;
A cultured man helps society’s progress;
You learn to think, face challenges that come;
What scholars do can everyone impress!

Most parents, teachers aid children to learn;
A lot is learnt from Mother Nature too;
The training helps a person to much earn;
All kinds of feats, a learned man can do!

The process gives children integrity;
No child can spot its faculties that well;
Suggestion fires mind’s curiosity;
What knowledge’s imbibed, only time may tell!

For education, perfection is goal;
You learn to live in harmony with world;
Facilitation is the teacher’s role;
The learning makes the heart and mind like gold!

A school provides the environs to learn;
Much ignorance can make life almost hell;
The student too, the mid-night oil must burn;
It takes one’s life-time to toll learning’s bell!

Discipline makes a student’s mind serene;
Ennobled thoughts can turn a person great;
Dispelled darkness within improves life’s scene;
There is no fear from destiny or fate!
