What Am I? Poem by Margaret Beil

What Am I?

Rating: 4.5

I feel the motion of the sea
Pulling me where I long to be
It does not matter the time of year
Of Mother Nature I have no fear
Completely enveloped in this space
Drifting in most wondrous grace
The city's power has no face
I play with dolphins we have a race
Down to the very depths we go
I sit down on the corals low
And marvel at the currents flow
Look how it moves my mane so slow
I am a mermaid
Did you know?

a very interestng point of view. I love the question at the end of the poem is a very powerful finish, it really sums up the analogy I feel you are expressing. I love the Idea of depicting humans as part animal and part human, what the Oxford academics call 'human-animals' and how you tie the tides of the universe to what can be called fate of rather the powers of mysteries of the universe if i may call it that. very interesting poem, with lots of depth. oh and don't mind my blabbering’s I really enjoyed reading youer poetry
