What A Difference A Year Can Make Poem by Francis Duggan

What A Difference A Year Can Make

This time last year he felt so down tears for lost love he shed
She had left him for one he knew well his former best mate Ed
He felt so shattered by it all he wished that he were dead
But that time is the best healer of all no truer words been said.

But what a difference a year can make a new love he has found
And he feels happy with his lot the happiest man around
His lover their child is carrying and they plan to wed in May
When one door closes another opens life's always been that way.

His former best mate Ed the one who now feels down and of love his life bereft
His lover who was the lover of his former mate for another him has left
By doing the dirty on his mate a mistake he had made
And for his act of disloyalty by bad karma he's been paid.

What a difference a year can make you only need ask Joe
He was a sad suicidal man only twelve months ago
But now his new love is with child and the good days are ahead
And the lovelorn fellow of today is his former best mate Ed.
