Well (Dug Hole) Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

Well (Dug Hole)

Rating: 5.0

It is age old tradition to dig well on highway
Travelers not to face difficulties on mid way
Living being may find it real and fine gesture
Tree branches near by may reflect true nature

Rulers, donors or wealthy generally constructed
To be used by all and normally so instructed
It was noble work and spoke of very good act
People may remember as it was common fact

In well, deep calm blue water appeared on surface
If you bend to see, may reveal your true face
Though you may be in hurry but find peace
You may rest there with calm and ease

Well may serve well so long it remains as well
How to preserve it may be like story to tell
So little in common but much to reveal
Good deeds and noble act and nothing to conceal

Go near to well and you won’t regret
No complaint even if you take water out in bucket
Passers by may stay for while and have rest
Thirst may be quenched on the way as crucial test

Great people remained aloof but acted like well
Never confined knowledge within or tried to sell
They might have preferred to store but ignored
Could sleep well over the books and snored

Knowledge is like deep well meant for common use
May stink if remained for long time without use
A well is called “well” if used very well
Whose beginning is well the end may also be well

Now wells are no more in use and remain as monuments
Served the purpose well at the time of crucial moments
Passers by and travelers noted its importance
Is it not the sheer neglect that we plead our ignorance?

ok, this is nice..water reveals in any forms..it may come from heaven, from uplands from lowlands and from undergrounds...well are from underground waters...before this is commonly used, but now adays, almost or majority of the population use the high tech way of producing waters...

Nice comparison between well and knowledge of noble and great men's works! They remind me of King Ashoka the great and many great poets like Shakespeare, Vyasa, etc.! Nice poem to read and muse over!
