We Arrive At Where We Are Poem by Shalom Freedman

We Arrive At Where We Are

WE ARRIVE AT WHERE WE ARE/ WITH REGRET FOR WHERE WE FAILED

We arrive at where we are
With regret for where we failed-
We try to sing
But who can sing
When there is no joy in our mind?

The years have gone by
What we have come to
We have come to
It has not been good enough-

Has it been good enough?

I write these lines falteringly
In the week of Rosh Hoshanah
Shouldn’t my mind be
On a different kind of Judgment?
God who Rules everything
Help my children please.
