We Are Women Poem by utsav kadmawala

We Are Women

Lying protected in my creators womb
I was protected by its walls
Confident, that i was ready to bloom
Until suddenly, i wasn't protected at all

I was slaughtered
Without being considered that i was tender
No one willing to raise a daughter
Because they were busy being preoccupied with gender

After ages of being patient
I had a chance at living
my creators having refused abortifacient
I was blinded by the fact that i had finished striving

It soon became clear
The restrictions that were imposed
Would never enable me to establish a career
Apparently I was always opposed

At a young age i understood
Realized it too
That beneath this pretendence and its hood
This world was not suitable for me, something i think I always knew

Even those like me
were abused and tortured
Despite the entire crowd being there to see
no one no one displayed courage to save their'nation's' daughters

What was our mistake?
why does this discrimination exist?
Our hearts were hurt and they ached
But we decided to insist
even if we were thwarted with a fist
We decided to resist

We are Women
We have endured pain
not just meant to be in the house
locked in the kitchen
since we work without thinking of our gain

We are Women
sweet and kind when viewed outwardly
we are the sharpest nib of a pen
we never were and will never be cowardly

We are women
we are precious
when compared to a lion
do you know what is more ferocious?
a lioness's den.

We are Women
We are the Ultimate creators
of everyone, even men
And when we want, we can even show our true colors

I finally felt I was free
from discrimination and torture
i have left my footprints, yes me
I am now respected as a mother, a sister and a daughter

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I suddenly realised everytime i read the morning papers that why does it only portray the wrong things that happen around us? And even if they do..how much difference does it make? Women need to be considered equal, its their birth right to be and it is our duty to see that it happenes
