We Are Getting Better Poem by Clarisse Sobiono

We Are Getting Better

That was yesterday
Try and forget about it
Triumphant or dismay
Away it was, away it stays

You could have wished it never happened
Or wish it never ended
Some of me die by day end
Things are lost, things are gained

I blamed myself that I never made you stay
Maybe it was all that I'm made for
But I've gotten along as it was yesterday
I've gotten better, to myself I say

There was glory and for a day I'm exalted
This won't leave tomorrow
This would leave when I least expected
It was greatness, I was blinded

Tomorrow frightens me
They say like a thief, I say like nothing else
If we are getting better, as we ought to be
Unknown will happen, unknown and not for free
