Warrior Poem by Susha Strauss

Warrior

You put on your helmet
Masking your fear
As you stare down the enemy
Across the battlefield
Mind against soul
Soul against mind
Then the trumpet sounds
And you fly
Slashing your enemies
Your memories
One by one
You defeat them all
Until before you
Stands the worst
Of them all
You remember
The story of David
And stand still
While the lord fights for you
He falls down
And you pull off your helmet
Tears streaming down your face
But, it’s okay to cry
Because it just means
You’ve stayed strong
For to long.
