Wally Lee Poem by Francis Duggan

Wally Lee

He lived to be a ripe old age old Wally Lee
Less than ten years short of the century
A dealer rabbits he did buy and sell
And a man Jack Iversen remembers well.

A character in the Wonthaggi of old
The rabbits he bought off of the rabbiters to Boddeley he sold
An in between man the rewards he did sow
And from his deals a profit he did show.

In the forties and fifties money out of rabbits people made
But the introduction of the myxomatosis finished the bunny trade
And for Wally Lee his dealing days were o'er
He did not buy and sell rabbits anymore

If there's a hereafter in that World beyond the sky
From the rabbiters the rabbits old Wally buy
And from his deals a good profit he still show
As he did in Wonthaggi years ago.

The ex rabbiter Jack Iversen told me
About the rabbit dealer Wally Lee
A well known character in the Wonthaggi of old
The rabbits he bought at a good profit he sold.
