Walking In The Wood Poem by Amitava Sur

Walking In The Wood

Rating: 5.0

Under the mid day's scorching sun
Walking in the wood's serpentine path.
A bird's tweet from a distant place
Making the silence more prominent!

The silence is so penetrative
As if this earth is totally dead.
I could hear the sound of dry leaves
Fluttering around or murmuring under my feet.

Wondering with my past
And visualizing under lens,
My present empty house was
Once filled with ample of joy!

No night could be lazy in my house
It was so vibrant and buoyant around,
With laughter and gossiping
The house was vibrating round the clock.

Now, no sound echoes there
The door bell rings scarce,
In a single stroke all are swept
I'm now in an empty nest.

Relatives, my friends
Hardly they do come now,
The kitchen remains almost idle
Tea kettle also whistles at least! !

Once I could not find
A silent corner to rest,
Now being imprisoned within these four walls,
They are haunting me day and night.

Monsoon, spring, festival and functions
Now, they all come and go by.
My beloved is no more with me
No such urge can drive me ahead.

Sitting in a corner in that big arm chair
My old pendulum clock's chiming I listen!
I can sense the winter is chasing me -
with it's heap of snow and chilling breeze
to dump them upon me.

Under the mid day's scorching sun
Walking in the wood's serpentine path.
A bird's tweet from a distant place
Making the silence more prominent!

Amazingly melancholy, your sorrow is very intense, very poignant in this poem. You have described life after the death of a loved one so poetically artistic, like a painting being viewed, Amitava. I feel your loneliness and emptiness in my heart as I read your poem, it brings tears to my eyes. Thank you, Amitava, it is beautiful, yet in a sorrowful way. RoseAnn

The silence of the woods is touchingly compared with the silence of your empty nest....... Your sense of loneliness is pitched deep in each line and it tugs at the heart! A poem which has flown from the inner springs of a bereaved heart! Amitava.... be calmed! Time is a great healer!

Beauty of this poem reflects in so many ways. It is nicely pennee well crafted with fluency and rhyming composition. It also expresses the solitude of life remembering byegone days. It reminds me a song of Kaviguru which i often listen Purano diner..... Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful sentiments expressed. Friends must realize that they need to call on frequently when one is all alone. In the meantime keep working to write your beautiful poems. They are reaching many and you are not alone. I read the poem again to feel the birds tweeting. Thank you.

in our good times we will be in a rush...at that time we expect a resting place...when we will be alone then silence will be our companion....very touching poem..................
