Walk The Road Alone Poem by Trever Barlow

If you decide to live your life
with your heart caged securely inside your chest,
you cant get hurt or feel the pain
which has brought down all the rest.

Just hide inside your own skin
near the bottom, way down deep;
Then there will be no difference
when you're awake or when you sleep.

You watch those other fools
who let emotions run their lives;
They'll fall down from their pedestal,
then they'll be asking, “Why? ”

You can sit back and laugh,
because you'll be the lucky one.
Kick up the footrest on your armchair,
when their love has been undone.

While they all fight emotions
to keep their hearts alive,
you can sit back and sip martini's
because they're the ones deprived.

No one needs these feelings,
they just build all up inside.
The smart folks don't need no one
with whom they need confide.

You're a strong and able person;
You can do it on your own.
If you've never had someone,
then you'll never feel alone.

They cant see things clearly
confusing thoughts within their head.
They will see that you are right,
when they too wind up dead.

And in the end you tell yourself
that you're the better species,
because you could defend your heart
from being torn to pieces.

And when that time does come,
that they've wasted all away,
with all their stupid love stories
of times that wouldn't stay,

You can laugh and point
and mock all of their life;
For you lived yours the right way
while theirs was full of strife.

I share with you this message:
hide away from all your feelings,
you will be the stronger man,
steer clear of lovers and all their dealings.

When I tell you all these things,
of course I'm kidding and I joke.
To even think of being this
makes me almost choke.

Be open to your loved ones,
for they're the ones that care.
Without them its not worth living,
and life just isn't fair.

You'll find down the path of life,
with or without this poem,
that no matter what you tell yourself,
no one can walk the road alone.
