Waking A Vacant Haze Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Waking A Vacant Haze

Rating: 5.0

In the cold of winter an inner light glows
The days are dreary and the nights are long
Inches climb covering everything with snow
Faintly in the distance I hear a familiar song

The music has no orchestra or stringed banjo band
The sources are innocuous and have no actual form
Yet the melody of the way it was, takes command
Radiating against my shallow cheek, soft and warm

Luminous memories linger behind dark closed eyes
Sweet sounds and images are like shimmering gold
Waking a vacant haze with rays; replacing good-byes
Bringing thoughts that close out the freezing cold
