Waiting On Love Poem by Wilma Horne

Waiting On Love

She sits and waits
Under the giant elm
For her love to come

He promised to meet her
At midnight
Where they first met

He promised her
They'd run away
And be together forever

She sits and waits
Under the giant elm
For her love to come

In days of youth
He pledged his love
With a ring of silver

He promised he'd be hers
And hers only
In life and death

She sits and waits
Under the giant elm
For her love to come

Life called him away
For country's sake
He went abroad

While away
He met someone new
A beauty to behold

She sits and waits
Under the giant elm
For her love to come

The new beauty
Now held his heart
As he held hers

Under a giant willow
The beauty and the man
Pledged their love for one another

She sits and waits
Under the giant elm
For her love to come

Over a year has passed
Since he went abroad
And found a new love

A year
Without any word
Yet..

She sits and waits
Under the giant elm
For her love to come
