Wagtails Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Wagtails

(for Elizabeth and David Bright)

Wagtails paired for life
Returning yearly laying eggs
Nesting in a flower basket raising young
Close to cottage front door.

Where have they been overseas?
Away for the winter months
Immigrants far from England's shores
Seeing sights to astound the eye?

Hearts soars with delight at their return
Little feathered friends
Yellow chests, chirping the morning's chorus
Greeting sunrise and welcoming the day.
