Visceral Love Poem by Steve Melling

Visceral Love

We lay there
Forgotten dew
Jilted by the sun
I watched the shadow play
As it held its line
Creeping over head
Resting in waves
Dashed by nature
My mind was lost
Only on you

We lay there
Speaking in whispers
Hiding from the world
I touched your skin
With my lips
To taste your warmth
Tracing your lines
With my eyes
And marking them
With my kiss

We lay there
Longing for the day
To keep us close
Under its wanton haze
Both aching
With hope
Desperate to fall
Without the knowledge
We hadn’t shared
We already had
