Veteris Vestigia Memoriae; Of That Former Memory Poem by Don Harris

Veteris Vestigia Memoriae; Of That Former Memory

Rating: 5.0

When a bird flutters fast,
dancing in the wind like memories past.
When a candle meets its sleep,
leaving darkness to fill your keep.
When a lost letter lands late,
reading its worn words musters pain in weight.
When a child is ousted a blood of kin,
a part deep and innocent is lost within.
I shall remember the chime,
oh the sad song of your cheated time.

Let the sullen church fret,
and breathe plentiful of those he once met.
Let the opulence of a sinking ships story,
be greeted and saluted by the captains glory.
Let a blind friend walk upon your broken land,
help him see life is as fortuitous as every grain of sand.
Let the silence of a bitter mans pride,
answer a thousand questions of why everybody lied.
I shall remember the chime,
oh the sad song of your cheated time.

I'm sure a beast can be lost,
thus my wandering aptitude to not feel at any cost.
I'm certain there was a haunting lady of sorrow,
waiting and waiting for my dear uncle to follow.
I'm no more wise nor strong amongst a tyranny of woe,
just less pressuming of the arcane world we all know.
I'm listening to what I am and what I shall be,
after pictures fade and my hair turns grey I am still unsure and do not see.
I shall remember the chime,
oh the sad song of your cheated time.
