Vestige Poem by Steven S. Walsky

Vestige

Two days have passed,
I find her glass.
Still half full,
waiting
on the end table
next to a vacant sofa.
Holding it in shadowed light,
should I look for prints
of soft fingertips,
or
seek along the rim
a vestige
of her kiss?
Or maybe
just let it sit…

Cynthia, Nelson, Thank you for your comments. Cynthia, I liked reading the word 'sensual' in your comment. I wanted the reader to walk away, as you have, with unanswered questions. Nelson, the poem is not about a specific woman, per say. It came to me as I noticed a glass my date had used a few days before and I had forgotten to it pick up. Yes, we had not talked on the phone since the date. So, the glass is in my hand and I thought 'this is more than just a reminder of her not calling, it represented the mental and physical evidence, traces of ourselves, that we leave as we touch the lives of others.' Poetry in the making... Steve

I wonder. Did this poem follow an argument? Perhaps the end of a relationship. If so, I sense the writer in an oblique way, longing for her. Thought provoking indeed. I like this one.

Dreamy, thought-provoking, and sensual. I had several thoughts after reading the poem, and questions unanswered - it leaves much for the vivid imagination.10++++
