Vessels Of Honor Poem by cheryl davis miller

Vessels Of Honor

'What is the matter Daddy
why is it you can’t see
all that's happening out there
it seems so clear to me.'
Daddy smiled and whispered,
'Honey you don’t understand
you have gained a vantage point
from my shoulders where you stand.'

Daughter spoke to Mother,
'Why is it so hard for you
To grasp this simple problem
and just do it as I do? '
Mother smiles at Daughter says,
'The reason you don’t fear
is 'cause I've simply grasped your hand
and held it all these years.'

When at last we comprehend
and become thankful for
the hands and shoulders from our past
which allowed us each to soar.
Then humbled heart’s will recognize
and so be more inclined
to touch the young in front of us
with the wisdom from behind.
