Valid Poem by Jessica Dehn

Valid

Rating: 2.5

I am Valid!

Every thought, every feeling, everything is valid!
Do not discount me because you disagree.
Do not ignore what you don't understand.

I am Valid!

No I can not explain what it is I feel, but
this does not make it untrue.
No I can not stop thinking this way or that way.
No I will not ignore myself, because I am valid.

I am Valid!

Every thought, every feeling, everything is valid!
My mind will change, my feelings will change, but everything is valid.
It will not make sense to you. You will not see my side. This does not change what I believe.

I am Valid!

Yes I might me wrong. Yes I will at times overthink and make a mess.
Do not discount me because of this. I am valid. Each thought I think and each feeling that passes is valid. They are my right!
They are me, each piece makes up a part of me. To deny any of them is to deny me.

I am Valid.

I wrote Valid after a time in my life when my thought and feelings were being overlooked and being told they were unimportant ect ect nasty stuff that is. I simply wanted to express that each person has a feeling or thought about different things and should not be ignored or under valued by other. As for them being 'my right' meaning that we should allow others to think, feel, and believe as they would never should that be taken from a person.

Valid? maybe. i looked up a definition and this is what i found: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - val·id 'valid/ adjective adjective: valid (of an argument or point) having a sound basis in logic or fact; reasonable or cogent. a valid criticism synonyms: well founded, sound, reasonable, rational, logical, justifiable, defensible, viable, bona fide; cogent, effective, powerful, potent, convincing, credible, forceful, strong, solid, weighty a valid criticism - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - i'd have to agree that you and you feelings and thoughts could be considered based in fact, in that, at least to you, they are 'true'. and yours could be considered 'bona fide', for which i have copied a definition, as follows: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - bo·na fide 'bon? ?fid, 'bän?/ adjective adjective: bona fide; adjective: bonafide 1. genuine; real. only bona fide members of the company are allowed to use the logo synonyms: authentic, genuine, real, true, actual; legal, legitimate, lawful, valid, proper; informallegit, the real McCoy the table is definitely an imitation Chippendale, but the chairs are bona fide - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - but a lot of synonyms for valid would not necessarily fit, i think. at least not all the time. i say that without knowing you. BEFORE I FORGET, i will say that i LIKE this poem. it rolls along smoothly, and is very persuasive-sounding at least. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - i do take exception to you saying They are my right! i'm not sure what that means. well, if you are just talking about thoughts and feelings, maybe they ARE, but i wouldn't want that feeling to be extended to your actions. i guess i read everything is valid! in the poem's second line and got concerned that you might have been exceeding your right(s) . maybe IM overthinking and 'making a mess'? thanks for sharing. :) bri
