Valentine's Day Poem by Julie A Smith

Valentine's Day

Rating: 4.8

Valentine's Day
is only a holiday
for couples and kids.

It is not for the lovelorn,
love that never lingers,
and the bashful.
It is not for me.

Perhaps Cupid is a fairy tale.
He never has liked me much.

Love's rejection
is a sad thing.
It leaves a sting.
Love also seems to be a fairy tale
told to little girls
with stars in their eyes
who dream of handsome princes.
Why can't there be happily ever after?
Can lasting love ever be true?
Maybe my Prince is
only a mirage
and that sad thought
makes me blue.
I refuse to accept that.
