Valentine Day

A day when secret love
coyly lifts a corner of her veil
revealing sufficient of her light
to guide lovers to their beloved
with a note of love professed
and a rose kissed by the lover's lips.

But we who have unveiled the face of love
still cherish the Valentine practise
for we know as love grows
new shoots sprout
and rosebuds appear
waiting to unfurl
rejuvenating the mystery of love;
as you and I grow old in years.

poet Emily Jane Brontë

I am the only being whose doom
No tongue would ask no eye would mourn
I never caused a thought of gloom
A smile of joy since I was born

In secret pleasure - secret tears
