Upon The Shore Poem by Tom Billsborough

Upon The Shore

Rating: 3.5

Constant watching as the sea begins
Its mantras once again
And I remain immobile on the shore,
As the sea breeze blows my memory away
And the now holds sway.
I close my eyes and all is light.
Immanent non- being.
No words may pass in flight
As seagulls on the wing.
No images or thoughts
Transgress the stillness there.
Pure peace descends upon the shore.

I was fascinated by the doric way the painting of the scene was achieved. So I translated it into my native language the neohellenic.I did use even words with a poetic backround of thousand years.I was not sure for the outcome.I was assured [...] that it was marvellous, at least equally great with the ptototype. Before submitting it as a translation in PH i will, send it to you, dear Tom.

Hi Dimitrios, That's very kind of you, I took ancient Greek at School together with Latin and loved Sophocles and Euripedes. I have the complete works of Sappho to date but only in English. It will be a big thrill to be able to read it in Greek. Please submit your translation on PH. Now I'm going to be very cheeky. If I sent you one or two pieces from Sappho would you translate them for me. You could submit these too. No hurry but it would be great to hear how her Sapphic stanzas sound in in modern Greek. My book has all the up to date scraps of her work. Hopefully more will be discovered soon.

Gosh! ! captivating poem Tom i can sense the mind quietening, as the memory fades and the aliveness of the present moment sweeps through you. Its like there is no separation between you the ocean and the breeze. I am left with a deep stillness and peace. Perfect bedtime poem, night night.Tom

This is beautiful. The sounds and images of the ocean provide soothing solace for meditation. The beach is my happy place- always. Your verse is beautiful.

the sea begins Its mantras once again- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Fascinating how we can weave a spell with words, isn't it? These two short lines do more than sketch a scene, they paint those rolling waves and their deep sea voices as they roar and swell and murmur on their way to the shore And the now holds sway.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Yes, it takes a master to write such a huge concept in so few powerful words. Tom, you have word-moxie! A very well-written piece!
