Unrequited Love? Poem by Jesus Diaz Llorico

Unrequited Love?

'Alone I stand beside the gate
This early hours of moonless night
A moment that I anxiously wait
And hoping things will turn out right

She walked the street in hurried haste
That it seems her mind was far away
For she's taken aback by my gaze
As she slowed down and looked my way

The time was right with stars above
As when I moved near by her side
She was calm when I told my love
That for a long time I have tried

I asked to drop by in her house
But she just graciously declined
This affection should not be discussed
She said for I've taken too much wine

Having come from a rich family
There is nothing more I can do
And I have come to this reality
Wealth plays a vital role and it's true

Her face was down as I read her mind
That through the torment of this pain
She whispers as I was left behind
That I take care and drink not again.'
