Unplugged Poem by Kathy Lippard Cobb

Unplugged

perhaps
one day soon
I will disconnect
the cable
internet
phone
so as not to be distracted
by such silliness as reality television
entertainment news
myspace
or american idol voting

I will finally read
those classic novels
gathering dust upon my shelves
then again
is it wise to go unplugged
for someone already plagued
by a terminal case of disconnection?

as it stands
most days
I want to stick my head in the oven
—but it’s electric
