Unlike Need Poem by derrick foster

Unlike Need

Not so much opposite as much as unlike
the need to do something

different, undone and unheard
unthinkable is this need

an original thinking
other than popular

mainstream. independent.
living being and seeing

it is an overwhelming urge
to be unique; strange

i march to my own timpani,
dance in my own way

how crazy this need to:
mix it up, backwards, inside out

left of center; seizing a moment
just to bend it to my liking

i take off my mask to reveal
a truer nature, another twisted

objectivity and perspective to change minds
and challenge average notions

Carpe unlikeness in my special way
tie stereotypes in knots

to wear like a wig. some disguise
i strip it off to reveal the unshakable
immovable difference exemplifying
justifying and solidifying: UNLIKE.
