Unknown Legend (A Sonnet For Sarah) Poem by Justin Gildow

Unknown Legend (A Sonnet For Sarah)

On a cloudy afternoon
I drove quite a distance
But I did it to see you
I told you I was coming
And I hope you were waiting for me

I'm sitting in darkness
And I see you onstage in your gown
In a sea of many other girls
You're pretty as you are

As I watch you onstage
I'm hit with conflicts of daydreaming
But I still watch the play
And I still pay attention to you

The hours fly by
And the show is over
Greeted with the closing of the curtains

I search and I find you
Quiet as you are
You're still special

In a difference of being young and old
We've carried each other through the passing of many months and days
And that I thank you for
And you send your thanks to me with a glance of your eyes and a small smile

The time has come for both of us to be on our way
You have a short distance to go
And I have to face many long miles again
But it doesn't matter
I thank you for expecting me
I thank you for waiting for me
