Unity Poem by Mary Spain

Unity

A willingness to yield my treasured will;
Acceptance of a curb on my desires;
A recognition that I will fulfil
Your plan for me; can this be love? The fires
Of self-willed passion flicker and subside,
A word I hardly knew comes into play
As, from the dying embers of false pride,
A rising phoenix offers to obey.
Our will I vest in you, your wishes mine;
Our trust I place in you, do what you may;
Our path I leave to you, but I will shine
My light to guide your footsteps on the way.
Can this be love, when separation dies
And unity is all I recognise?
