Unfinished Business Poem by Judith Punzalan

Unfinished Business

I'm kinda dumb and you're kinda sweet
You make me sing and you give me an eager heartbeat
You pull me up gently, you pull me up high
When I'm almost broken and ready to cry

I would be most grateful to let you know
That in this world of pain, misery, and sorrow
You are my sweet escape and my definite comfort
A meaning of something nobody could ever distort

If I would enumerate the things I adore about you
An hour or so, a day or more, a year or two
Would never ever be enough to list them all down
Even if we come to the point that I'd be wearing a gown

There are many things I like about you
And it's already silly because you don't have a clue
So if you want to know them at this moment
Darling, let me feel each sentiment

I like your facial expressions
Sometimes funny without intentions
I like the way you talk to me
Like you've known me for half of your eternity

I like the way everything's natural,
Born this way, and rational
I like that you're willing to look stupid with me
Jump up and down, and laugh carelessly

It's something I thought will never happen
It's something I thought I'll always do and will hold no meaning
It's something I thought I'll always pretend not to feel and will have to hide
It's something I thought I'd always have but will have to set aside

We laugh like we own the place
You memorize even the blemishes on my face
When we're together we don't notice the time
I love you even if to others this is a crime

You tell me you love me more than what you show
I tell you I don't fall in love but into love I grow
You say that I complete your day
I say to me you make everything okay

If when I'm near you I give you shivers under your skin
You make me feel like nothing I do with you is a sin
And if you ask me again tomorrow if it's okay with me
I'd tell you again the answer I said at 10: 53

Darling, I won't need all the highfaluting words
Even if their definitions are higher than flying birds
Because no word can be enough to hold your meaning
And no word can answer how you have become so amazing

If I lose this again, I think it wouldn't be a problem
Because in reality I would never find the perfect emblem
Or the perfect description, or the exact definition
Of our combination and our lively orchestration.

I leave this unfinished because I'll never be.
If you feel it, you'll get what I see.
