If I were anything I wish
I would be an underline
I'd lie around all day
an spy on what's going on above me

I'd only be called upon for important things
and when things get out of hand
I have friends
Just like me
to help me enforce it

I'll know the best literature
the best movies
the best songs
I'd be a pop-culture goddess
that even the very young know

I can speak every language
I can even speak with pictures
I never say much
but I emphasize everything

I am so necessary
but sometimes overused
and rarely abused

So if you were a word
just emphasize to have me come to call.
