Two Other Little Boys Poem by Tom Higgins

Two Other Little Boys

I sat and watched two little boys die,
on my TV screen last night.
I sat and watched as each in turn,
lost his uneven fight.
They died from something we don't fear,
they died because they were poor,
they died from pneumonia brought on by diarrhoea,
which for us is so easy to cure.
I will never forget their mothers cries,
or the anguish of their faces,
once more their reality magnifies,
the inequalities between our races.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Thank you for writing this very eloquent message about the dying children of this world. I too am quite disturbed and appalled at the lack of worldwide concern for the poor of this world - even with the UNICEF and the World Food Program - all of which seem to be just empty political gimmicks that achieve nothing. Add to that the flagrant extravagance of those who have all the reasons to DO something about it and yet waste their wealth on silly monuments that glorify their shallow personalities.
