Two Children Poem by Nina Dringo

Two Children

Rating: 5.0

A star was shining on down to a child
Who was just so lovely, so tender and mild
She wished for a kiss and to be far away
And hoped that it all would come true some day.

So far away, a child wished the same
Plus toys and a pony, and money and fame
For those he hated to be eternally cursed
And for everyone unknown, he wished the worst.

If the first child's wish could somehow come true
I would laugh, and run away with her too
The world would rejoice, there might be peace
A mean uncle might suddenly love his niece.

If child two's wish could somehow come true
I would cry and say goodbye to love and fresh dew
For he would increase the worst of the world
No more would be beauty or sails unfurled.

Wishes are powerful, magical things
Some believe they laugh and grow wings
But the one thing that they should do not
Is increase the problem's this world's already got.

Wow, very moving. I love the imagery and the rhyme scheme.
