Twilight Days Poem by Jim Goodall

Twilight Days

My life is at the stage when each day is a bonus
These old limbs of mine have an awful creeping slowness
If only I could run and play how I did in years gone by
I would love an action-replay, Oh man how I would try

But now it's pills and potions that I have to take each day
To keep the common cold and heart attacks at bay
Still, I've had a terrific life, one that's full of joy
Great family and friends I've had, I've been a lucky boy

Now today is almost over, it's time to have a beer
To sit and put my feet up, while my thoughts are fresh and clear
I'll close my eyes and think about all the days gone by
And dream of all the times when blue was in the sky

The sun shone bright the whole day long
And fluffy white clouds would just drift along
I'll think of the years that have gone too fast
And admit the sad fact that nothing can last

So who knows what the future holds in the coming years
Like the Starship Enterprise, I'll look for new frontiers
To keep fit and active, this is now my aim
If I cannot manage it, it would be a shame

My stories they've all now come to an end
I hope you enjoyed them my dear friend
Memories are such a wondrous thing
Thoughts of yore, they do bring

So I'll stand up now and face the world
Always being positive, keeping my flag unfurled
But let's not dwell upon days gone by
It's what comes next and how we try

To face the new world that's what we must do
With hope for the future and visions anew
I hope this inspires you to write down your tale
Go on now, don't stop, it's time to unveil

You must have a story your friends want to see
Now is the time, please do the same as me
So lift up your pen and sit down and write
Yesteryear thoughts will soon come to light
