Twice As Hard Poem by Vincent Topp

Twice As Hard

Grown up in the business,
Like their father and his father before.
One was a natural, but the other bled sweat.
They longed to shake off the halo,
That their father had always worn.
They longed to make a new shadow,
Made up of their own individual forms.
They loved him in spadefulls but hated him in bucketloads,
The family name was always the elephant in the room.
The name, their name was why they had to work twice as hard.
