Trying Not To Be

To try not to be, or to be?
is the question this poet is asked
by agreeing a poet's a liar.

Being means persuasion,
means tricks;

trying not to lie
requires removal,
trick by trick,
of persuasions,
and awareness of new tricks arising,
new forms of rhetoric.

It's not easy being me
trying not to be.
