True Freedom Poem by david robicheaux

True Freedom

Rating: 4.5

True freedom derives from chaos
Is it a price willing to pay
Or a debt willing to hold
Is not our freedom married to bondage
Are we not chained at birth, loosed with death
Yea, we value theory rather than truth
We deem the naïve as philosophers
The dim-witted as kings
Are we not bound by corporate voice and led by one
With freedom to praise this voice
And death to oppose the one
Do we not search diligently for Caesar
Yet we are cursed with the spirit of Nero
Are we not governed by the rich while the poor drown
Yea, this age darkens and ancient evils envy
Looking up to freedom, yet crushed by the taxing millstone
Does not freedom evade us as the horizon
Do we not chase freedom only to stumble by the unearthed root
And trampled upon by our elect
Are they not mirthful of our demise
Grieving our prosperity
Do they not set themselves apart from the corporate being
As a separate entity
Is freedom a price willing to pay, or a debt willing to hold
Yea, it has been paid by blood and despair with interest
