Trout Fishing On Round Lake Poem by Raymond Farrell

Trout Fishing On Round Lake

I can remember
Standing on the shore
Of little Round Lake
On Highway 507
North of the village
Of Sharbot Lake
Watching my bobber
Hoping to see it
Submerge
With a fat trout
Hooked
I and dozens of folk
Stood
In cold stone silence
That hot July day
Looking at a lake
As smooth as glass
Waiting
Hoping
Praying
To catch something
But not one of us
Caught anything
Suddenly
From circling
In the sky above
The lake
An osprey
Dove
And with one
Swoop
Broke the water's surface
And descended heavenward
With a nice trout
Between his talons
Everyone
Simultaneously
Clapped and cheered
And the tension
That had ringed the lake
That day
Was suddenly broken.
