Tolstoy's Lament Poem by Bill Lindsay

Tolstoy's Lament

Peace
Is not
A given
Nor can it be
Taken from a war
It is a gift
Bestowed on
Those who
Love

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
One of my first attempts at Rhopalic verse, it spilled from me in a very few minutes as I pondered on the futility of the war in the Middle East
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Bill, I am not sure in the macro sense "peace" and "life" in any form are compatible. There is peace on the moon, because there is no life at all. However, show me any living environment, and I will show you a struggle to survive that does not benefit some living things. This starts at the micro and works to the top of the food chain. Peace? It may only be relative to prior states of conflict.
