Tolerant India Poem by Shujaat Hussain

Tolerant India

Tolerant India, Liberal India
Civilized India, Cultured India
Shining India, Glorified India
Wondrous India

Where the Ganges and the Yamuna flow
Cool breezes from the Himalayas blow
Verses of the Gita they flow
Vaishnu Devi and Amarnath
Are the pilgrims path
Also they take their holy bath
So high is the profile of India
That we hoist flags in stadia
But now venomous wind blows
Modern men move in changed culture
Democratic form has got rupture
Political conscience cruel vulture

Liberal India looks intolerant
In the letter and spirit of history
Let the writers for the sake of country
Not make it a myth or mystery
As they are literary sentry

A crime reporter pays for his courage with death
A celebrity artist dies in exile
Films and books are routinely banned
Raises serious questions on millions mutiny

Several groups claiming moral custody of the entire nation
Is this the emerging India-does deserve ovation?

Our minds are closed to those
Who are not like us
Destroy the fragrance of the rose
Create controversies and a great fuss
Our men of letters or power lack empathy
Their heats have little sympathy

Why the waves in the seas seem silent
Show their strength and be violent
Even unseen wind possesses perilous might
Heavy Iron Gate flies like a kite at great height
Sweep out harmful particles from the land
God is omnipotent everything is in His hand
