Today Is Yesterday's Tomorrow Poem by Aimee Rozen

Today Is Yesterday's Tomorrow

legs are crossed
eyes closed tight
fight back the tears
that long to fall
a tightness in my chest
a quiver on my breath
where are you?
long ago my mother
made her choice
my father followed suit.
but i thought you were different.
I open my eyes
wanting to see you there
but I am all alone.
I know you deserted me
throughout my past.
but I kept my hopes high
and believed one day
you would be there
to finally hold my hand
and show me that you love me
but you don't.
and my hand is empty.
I want to believe
tomorrow is a new day
and put today in the past.
but my past repeats itself
and becomes my present.
my past is my future
and tomorrow, my hand
will still be empty.
