Today For The Good Man Poem by Francis Duggan

Today For The Good Man

Today for the good man the church bell did toll
And his family and friends and relations did pray for his soul
But his is a soul that does not need prayer
For if there is a heaven tonight he is there.

Today at his graveside his wife and daughters in tears
For the husband and father they will mourn for years
A truck driver's mistake had cost him his life
And took him from his loving daughters and wife.

As he drove in his car to work the end came suddenly
The out of control truck too late he did see
The truck driver escaped with a slight injury
But he lives to regret the needless tragedy.

Today at his graveside eulogy kind things of him said
But tonight all is quiet where he lay with the dead
Sadly missed by his friends and mourned by his family
But his death was part of his life's destiny.
