To Write Well We Must Learn Well Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

To Write Well We Must Learn Well

When I was in grade school
I had a strict teacher in English.
She said grammar is a very good tool
To write well, this we must polish.

She gave us a daily dose of practice,
Verbs, subjects, and sentences.
And the spellings she would never miss,
We learned correction in her presence.

Tests would sharpen our skills,
She challenged us to speak and write.
Until it clothed our very wills,
To express ourselves well and right.

Her words still linger in memory,
'Read, write, and read some more! '
These lessons that I kept faithfully
Grace the lines of what I'm writing for.

Learning is a life-time school,
We never stop in this chosen course.
Precise words, spelled correctly are tools
And to write, we must learn them, of course.
